On Tuesday evening, Edmond (Okla.) native and Charlotte guard Curran Scott told Inside Tulsa Sports that he was transferring to the University of Tulsa. He’ll be one of nine newcomers next season but will have to sit out due to transfer rules.

Inside Tulsa Sports spoke to the 6-foot-4, 205 pound scoring guard several times during his senior year of high school when he received an offer from Frank Haith’s staff, but he ultimately chose to play for Oklahoma native Mark Price at Charlotte. However, he received his release from the 49ers today and quickly chose TU due to two key factors.

“Location and being so familiar with the coaching staff,” Scott told Inside Tulsa Sports on Tuesday evening. “It was a pretty quick and a smooth process. I like Tulsa, and it was a perfect opportunity for me, so it's (a decision) that I’m very happy with. I will be there starting the first summer session.”

With the Golden Hurricane losing eight scholarship seniors, Scott has an opportunity to make an instant impact for TU in the future.

“Well, I definitely think that losing all the seniors this year is going to give me a chance to come in and use the experience and leadership I gained this year to help the team,” he explained. “They had a great season, and it’s something we can build on in the future.”

Scott was excellent for Charlotte as a freshman this past season, averaging 11 points and 3 rebounds while shooting a stellar 44-percent from three-point range and 83-percent from the free-throw line.

“I played about 26 minutes a game and started 19 games this year,” Scott added. “It was a good season.”

Although he has to sit out next season, Scott still has goals he plans to accomplish during that time.

“I just want to get better and work on my game constantly,” he said. “I also want to bring leadership and help the team grow.”

Once he eventually hits the court for the Hurricane, Scott plans to be a versatile player, just as he was for Charlotte in his freshman season.

“I would consider myself a two-guard, but I can play anywhere from the one to four if need be,” he described. “I played a lot of (forward) this year because we were a smaller team. But I would say my strengths are scoring and getting to the free throw line. My three-point shot definitely improved this year. It was something I worked on hard and is something I will continue to work on.”

As a high school senior at Edmond Memorial, Scott averaged 21.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He was a 3-star prospect that had plenty of good things to say about Tulsa during his recruiting process.

“I was impressed with the facilities. I had been there before, but to see them expanding even more is a good thing to see,” Scott told Inside Tulsa Sports in June of 2014. “And the coaching staff was great. Not only are they good coaches, but they are good people as well. It's really a family environment.”

Tulsa has already signed four players in the 2016 recruiting class, while four others have given verbal commitments and can sign between April 13 and May 18.
